At ViVo Dental Westbrook we are pleased to be able to offer our patients the options of dental implants. In our office we are able to place as well as restore your dental implants so all aspects of your treatment can be done in the office and there is no need to be referred somewhere else.
Tooth Replacement Options
There are different options for replacing missing teeth like dentures and bridges but dental implants are by far the most superior. Implants are essentially a replacement of the tooth root and they are made out of titanium. The advantages of implants are that they are fixed in your mouth and don’t move around so they look and feel like a natural tooth. There is no need to remove them to clean them like a denture and because an implant is not attached to the adjacent teeth it is also much easier to clean than a bridge.
How Do Dental Implants Work?
Sometimes people ask us about how implants are placed in the mouth, is it painful, or about the procedure itself. The good news is that in most cases its quite straightforward. The area that the implant is placed is frozen or anesthetized like it would be for a routine filling and the appointment is about one hour in length. Generally there is no pain during the healing and most patients report back on how surprised they were that they felt very little pain if any. We then wait for the implant to heal and then we can restore your implant and give you your missing tooth back! Your tooth is cemented or screwed onto the implant so it stays fixed in place and you don’t have to worry about it falling off.
Once your tooth is in place there is nothing special you need to do, you would take care of it just like a natural tooth by brushing and flossing regularly as well as coming for routine cleanings. Maintaining healthy gums is essential to the longevity and comfort of all of your dentistry because your gums are the foundation of your smile. Infections, such as periodontal disease, can put your dental implant and your overall health at risk.
